Account & Data Deletion
This page explains how to delete your SAFO account and what happens to your data. It applies to the SAFO app and the SAFO website, operated by SAFO GLOBAL. It is a plain-language summary of SAFO's current Terms and Privacy Policy — those documents remain the authoritative texts.
How to request deletion of your account
You can request deletion yourself, at any time, from inside the SAFO app — there is no waiting period before you may ask, and you do not need to contact support first.
- Open Settings → Account → Danger zone → Delete account permanently. (You can also use Settings → Privacy & Security → Privacy Centre → Delete My Account.)
- Choose why you are leaving (optional) and continue.
- Confirm that it is really you: enter your password, or enter the one-time code SAFO emails to your account address.
- Type the confirmation phrase DELETE MY ACCOUNT and confirm.
- Your profile is hidden immediately and the deletion is scheduled.
If you cannot sign in, you can send a deletion request to privacy@safoapp.com. SAFO will verify, proportionately, that you own the account before acting on the request.
What happens after you request deletion
- Your profile is hidden from other members immediately.
- A 30-day grace period starts. During those 30 days you can restore your account by logging back in.
- If you do not restore it, a final purge runs after the 30 days and permanently deletes or irreversibly anonymises your personal data.
- A limited set of records is kept where the law requires it or where it is needed to protect other users, security or legal claims (see below).
The 30 days are a restoration window, not a waiting time. You can request deletion straight away; the 30 days only give you the chance to change your mind before the deletion becomes permanent.
What is deleted or anonymised
When the final purge runs, SAFO deletes or irreversibly anonymises the personal data connected to your account, including:
- your login identity, sessions and sign-in records;
- your profile information and profile/gallery photos and other stored files;
- your posts, comments, Ask Safo questions and answers;
- your private messages, notifications and notification preferences;
- your likes, matches, blocks and reports you submitted;
- your location and travel information;
- your app preferences and settings;
- your subscription entitlements, analytics identifiers and the account link on any promo code you redeemed.
What may be kept, and for how long
Some limited records remain after the purge because the law requires it, or because deleting them would damage other people's records or SAFO's ability to keep the community safe. These records are not used to recreate your account, to re-identify you or for marketing.
- An anonymised placeholder shown as "[Deleted User]", so other members' conversations and shared threads stay readable.
- A minimal consent history (consent type, given or withdrawn, version, timestamp), kept as accountability evidence under GDPR Articles 5(2) and 7(1).
- An account-purge audit log recording that a purge ran, when, and which categories it covered.
- Safety and moderation records — reports, warnings, suspensions, bans and moderation logs: up to 5 years.
- Security logs: 12 months.
- Payment and accounting records: as required by Danish accounting and tax law, generally 5 years from the end of the relevant financial year.
- Technical backups: a limited rolling period of 30–90 days before secure overwrite, used only for disaster recovery.
- Content shared with others may be preserved or anonymised where needed to keep another member's lawful conversation history intact.
Delete specific data without deleting your account
Yes — you can remove specific data and keep your SAFO account. Directly in the app you can:
- delete your own posts, comments, replies, Ask Safo questions and answers;
- remove or replace your profile photo and gallery photos;
- edit or clear profile fields such as your bio, interests and pronouns;
- withdraw your consent for sensitive data under Settings → Privacy & Security → Privacy Centre → Consents, which clears the profile fields that depend on it;
- turn off location features and clear location settings;
- download a full copy of your data before removing anything;
- submit a deletion, correction, restriction or objection request for specific data under Settings → Privacy & Security → Privacy Centre → Submit a Privacy Request.
You can also email privacy@safoapp.com with a request covering specific data. SAFO verifies ownership of the account proportionately before making changes.
