Jordy Rosenberg's 2018 novel, *Confessions of the Fox*, is a captivating work of LGBTQ historical fiction that reinterprets the life of legendary 18th-century thief, Jack Sheppard. The narrative intertwines academic investigation with historical reimagining, as a present-day scholar uncovers a manuscript believed to be Sheppard’s confessions. This discovery unveils a radical vision of the past, centering a trans protagonist and their passionate affair with fellow thief Bess Khan, challenging conventional understandings of gender and desire in historical contexts.
