Ausstellung: Mike Franas - Its a mans world

Jedes Modell, dem mike.franas begegnet und das er malt, verkörpert unterschiedliche Charakterzüge – von weiblich anmutenden bis hin zu markant männlich geprägten Facetten. Den Künstler fasziniert die Auseinandersetzung mit Männlichkeit; er spielt kreativ mit dieser Vielfalt. Seine Bilder entstehen vorwiegend in Öltechnik, so auch alle in dieser Ausstellung gezeigten. Ihr Schwerpunkt, eine über zwei Jahre hinweg entstandene Serie von acht Männerporträts, rückt den Mann als Mensch in den Mittelpunkt – so, wie er tatsächlich ist. Daher verzichtet der Künstler bewusst auf einen Hintergrund und malt direkt auf roher Leinwand, damit sich der Blick des Betrachters ungestört auf das Modell, dessen Mimik und die Art und Weise, wie der Körper präsentiert wird, konzentrieren kann. Jedes Porträt gleicht einem in der Zeit angehaltenen Moment, der versucht, die Einzigartigkeit des Dargestellten zu beschreiben. Auf diese Weise lädt der Künstler den Betrachter dazu ein, nicht nur die äußere Erscheinung des Modells zu betrachten, sondern auch darüber nachzudenken: Was für ein Mensch ist er eigentlich? mehr zum Künstler: @mike.franas Every model mike.franas encounters and paints embodies different character traits – ranging from feminine-seeming to strikingly masculine facets. The artist is fascinated by the exploration of masculinity; he plays creatively with this diversity. His paintings are predominantly created using oil on canvas, as are all those on display in this exhibition. The focus of the exhibition – a series of eight male portraits created over a period of two years – centres on the man as a human being – just as he truly is. For this reason, the artist deliberately omits a background and paints directly onto raw canvas, so that the viewer’s gaze can concentrate undisturbed on the model, his facial expressions and the way in which his body is presented. Each portrait resembles a moment frozen in time, seeking to capture the uniqueness of the subject. In this way, the artist invites the viewer not only to observe the model’s outward appearance, but also to reflect: what sort of person is he, really? It will be the very first individual exhibition for Mike Franas in Berlin and also he will be presenting mostly one series but quite varied motives and the only common denominator is the man. Mike Franas has over 30 years of experience in portrait and figurative painting. He currently focuses on portraiture and the human body in the context of queer art. more: @mike.franas
